RE: Acura ILX Coupe vs. Scion FR-S
FR-S is a very appealing car, but different from the ILX in several ways. It seems that Acura is emphasizing "smart luxury" in its new cars. The ILX is designed to appeal to young generation Y people who are used to being cosseted with power windows, seat warming and quiet interiors. Ironically the FR-S is most appreciated by older people who grew up with pure sports cars (emphasis on handling not HP) that were relatively spartan and not-luxurious. After seeing what bull**** Subaru dealers are making potential buyers go through, I am majorly turned off by the sales approach to that vehicle. I am not about to put a non-refundable deposit on a car that I A) haven't tried, B) has not announced price, C) does not yet have interior dimension specs, D) has a delivery date of 3-9 months. Only fools and rich people will make that kind of a committment.
In any case, we don't yet know how performance-oriented the 2.4l/6-speed version of the ILX will be. My own hope is that it will drive like a Civic Si, only with good soundproofing, more tactile steering and a really high quality interior. I cancelled an SI order so that I could take a serious look at the ILX. If it doesn't work out, I will look at the Scion FR-S. To **** with greedy Subaru dealers.
